Sudden Hair Chalk Craze!! ♥ Review and Tutorial

Okay, first is first. What is hair chalk some people may ask. Is it chalk for hair, or chalk made out of hair (ewww). Well, hair chalk is normal soft pastels. You can find them at a local art store. DO NOT GO FOR OIL PASTELS. GET SOFT PASTELS. Oil pastels are a lot messier and don't work cos' the oil will clump your hair together. Another tip, HAIR CHALK IS NOT SOMETHING SPECIAL. What I mean is, don't pay extra for it. It's just normal soft pastels which aren't really expensive, so if you are buying online and someone sells hair chalk for more than $15 AT MOST, don't buy it. So yeah, here's how you do it!! LEGOOO!!

(Sorry there will be no step-by-step pictures here. It's difficult to do it and take pictures, but there will be a video!)

  • First, wet the section of your hair you want to colour with water. Make sure it's really wet.
  • Next, dip the tip of the hair chalk in water. It helps to moisten the chalk for easier application.
  • Run the chalk down your hair until you feel you have added enough. NOTE: THE COLOUR GETS MORE OBVIOUS WHEN YOUR HAIR DRIES, SO WHEN YOU APPLY IT, DON'T ADD TO MUCH
  • Comb your hair
  • *Optional* Use a straightening or curling iron to straighten/curl your hair. The heat helps brighten as well as seal the colours in.

:) Easy right? Will post a video tutorial up on Youtube when I'm free. :)

Okay, so here's my pros and cons of using hair chalk:

PROS:

  • Your the stylist, so be creative and think of different ways or areas to apply it in and make your hair super cool.
  • Quite cheap and available in art stores.
  • Works on dark hair too.
  • Don't worry about making mistakes, it's temporary (;
CONS:

  • Very drying to your hair.
  • The fact that it's temporary can also be a con:- Like when you do a super cool design and you wanna keep it forever, but it will have to come off :'(
Anyway, here's some that I did. Enjoy (;

Haul and Review: UBU Makeup Brushes

Okay, so I got these at the Watsons sale at the start of June. The purple coloured range is $6.20 each (I think) and are for the eyes. The pink coloured range is $10.20 each (again, I think so) and are for the face. But I got them at a 20% offer, so yeah.. Anyway, I have:

  • Berry Blush: Angled Blusher Brush
  • 2 Shady Lady: Eye shadow Brush
  • Luxury Liner: Eye liner Brush
  • Drama Queen: Eye Defining Brush
Initially, I bought 1 Shady Lady: Eyeshadow Brush and I thought it was pretty good, so I decided to get more, including another one of it, since I have a lot of eyeshadow ^^ I think it's pretty good for the price it's worth. I had some makeup brushes from Sephora, which is, as expected, pretty pricey.. I thought this was a value for money cos' I was on a budget. Original price for all was $35, with the sale it was $28. In Sephora, that's the price for one brush (for certain brands), so it was like a steal for me. Anyway, this brushes are just like any other brush. I like them all except the luxury liner one. When I apply gel liner, I usually use an angled brush, so I don't have much experience with proper eye liner brushes. Although, even with little experience, I can tell that this eye liner brush isn't very good. I've used an eye liner brush before, and it was pretty good, it's just that I was more used to using an angled bush. But still, I don't really like their eye liner brush. Another brush I don't like as much as the others is the Angled Blusher Brush. Not that anything is wrong with their blusher brush, it's just that for me, I prefer using the applicator that came along with the blusher. I don't really like this brush cos' it's bristle are kinda stiff. I prefer blusher brushes to have a softer bristle, like the ones the came with the blusher. I find that stiff bristles can poke my skin and cos' it to be irritated and ends up with me scratching my face, not only ruining my makeup but also cos' my skin to be even more irritated. That's why I prefer softer bristles. ^^ But I really really like their eye shadow brushes! That's why I bought another one of the 'Shady Lady: Eye Shadow Brush'! I personally prefer using brushes than eye shadow applicators given with the eye shadow palette. So if you're looking for cheap make brushes, get the eye shadow brushes. If you like stiff bristles then you should get the Angled Blusher Brush. As for an eye liner brush, I would rather spend more money in another brush from Sephora that I'm comfortable with using than save money by getting a brush that I don't like. But it's all up to your personal preference. If you're fine with their eye liner brush, then you should it. Their brushes are a value for money and you can use the savings to buy more makeup! :P  :)

Galaxy Nail Tutorial :)

YAY! Galaxy nails! I love everything galaxy, so when I heard about galaxy nails, I watched like every tutorial on Youtube, although it's more or less the same thing. You'll need:

  1. Black/Dark Blue nail polish
  2. White/Silver nail polish
  3. About 3 more nail polish with the colour of your choice
  4. Nail Polish with micro-glitter OR Clear top coat
  5. Make up sponge
  6. Toothpick
Not that many things right? Okay, not really, but it's worth it! (;

Okay, so first, paint your nails black or dark blue.

Next, using a make up sponge, gently apply the white or silver polish diagonally across your nail. Ensure that it's spread out, the colour being most concentrated in the middle and slowly fading out, and that the base colour applied can still be seen towards the outer corners and the faded white/silver areas.

Use the same technique, do the same for the other colours of your choice, applying it around the faded areas of white/silver, not in the centre of the 'concentrated' colour.

If you'd like, use a toothpick to add small white/silver dots to represent stars. Finish off with nail polish with tiny micro-glitter for a more galaxy feel, or a clear top coat if you prefer.

Review: Sally Hansen Diamond Strength French Maincure Pen Kit

Okay, so I got this set at Guardian, and I have mixed feeling about it, majority are bad ones. Okay, first, what I like about this:

It's really convenient as it has a base colour, top colour, white tip pen and stickers to paste on your nails to use as a guide line. Also, the white tip pen is really easy to use for both hands, so you don't have to worry when using your other hand. That's pretty much what I like about it.

Now, dislikes. Firstly, the white tip pen is really watery. So it's easy for it to sip into gaps if you don't apply the sticker guides properly and also the sides of your nails. Another thing I hate is that it is really faint. You have to shake it and push the tip against a hard surface till the 'ink' gets thicker and more obvious, but still, when you apply it on your nails, it doesn't really look nice as French tips. Next, the tip of the white tip pen is not like the picture on the box is. On the picture on the box, the tip of the pen looks very thin and easy to use and kinda looks like it's made from sponge, but in actual fact, the tip is, I don't really know how to describe it, but it's shaped like a highlighter tip, and it's very rough, like made of something with a fibrous texture. One more thing I hate about it is the price. It's $30 (SGD) or at least around there, I can't really remember. Anyway, the 'good' things in here are the base colour and top coat, and the nail guides, but if I wanted those nail polishes, I would have gotten them separately rather than get this set. It seemed like a good deal, but once you see the white tip pen, it's not a good deal.

Okay, so when you just open it, it's pretty faint (starts from the dot below the '23') and goes anti-clockwise after shaking and pressing

Le sigh, so overall, I don't think it's worth it and you shouldn't get it. It's a lot cheaper to get simple white nail polish from whatever brand and make your own nail guides. What I'll do with this set now? I don't really know, but I'll most likely use the nail polishes, and use the nail guides when doing DIY French nail with normal white polish. Not so sure what to do with the white tip pen though..

Leopard Nails Tutorial ^^ ☢

Woo hoo! Doing a tutorial for leopard print nails! If you look above ^^^ that's the result! I might shoot a video for this tutorial and upload it on Youtube, but we'll see first.. Anyways, let's start!

First, paint your nails with your favourite base colour, but keep it light and preferably pastel, so the spots will be more obvious. I'm using 83 First Blush from Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear nail colour, it's a really pale pink colour. Anyway, try to apply it as even as possible and make sure it is COMPLETELY dry before you continue ^^

Next, choose some of your favourite colours. I chose bright colour to make the spots stand out. The polishes I'm using are LA Girls Black Light Nail Polish in NL79 Chic (Hot Pink), some nail polish I got from Sasa (Purple) and some cheap polish I got cos' I really liked the colour (Blue). Using a bobby pin (I don't have nail dotting tools cos' I can't find them anywhere! I know Sephora has but when I went there it was out of stock :( So I use normal household items), add random dots on your nails. Make sure they are some distance apart, so the next step will be a lot easier

Once the dots have dried, I use a pencil (again, no dotting tool) to outline the dots with a thick black line. It's important that the line does not become a full circle surrounding the dot or touch the line of another dot. Once done, add some random small black dots

Okay! So you're done! Although you should apply a layer of clear top coat to help protect the polish. It should look something like this:

I know now it doesn't look very nice compared to the ones at the top of the post, so I might redo it in the form of a video tutorial and post it on Youtube... I'll inform you guys when I've done it! :)

Review: Maybelline Baby Lips

Hey guys!! Just thought I'd do a review on Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm. I LOVE baby lips so much that I have 3 :) Limited edition Protecting Berry, Cherry Velvet and Anti-Oxidant Berry. I bought the Anti-Oxidant Berry one, the Protecting Berry was a gift and I got Cherry Velvet free when I bought mascara. I use them everyday and bring them everywhere I go. I keep the Protecting Berry one in my room, while the Cherry Velvet is in my school bag and the Anti-Oxidant Berry is in my 'going out' bag. They really moisturise my lips. I recently returned from an overseas trip and the weather there is super cold and it dries my skin and lips. Also, the flight there is also very long and it's really cold in the cabin, so my skin got really dehydrated. But baby lips saved the day! It moisturises your lips really fast and you can feel the difference. I know the ones I have are different from the ones in America, so I'm not sure if the ones I have give colour like the ones in the states, but yeah. Although, I do prefer the packaging of the one from the states.
